ABOUT FOTOGRAFISKA NEW YORKFotografiska, the Stockholm based, internationally renowned meeting place for the world's best photography, is launching a New York City location opening in October 2019. Fotografiska New York will bring an exciting mix of photography, culture, dining, and entertainment to the Flatiron District of Manhattan. Located at 281 Park Avenue South in the Flatiron District, the six floor, 45,000-sq.ft. Fotografiska New York will be home to a multi-concept venue, featuring three floors of galleries, an esteemed hospitality partner, a highly curated retail offering, and a versatile event space. The building was constructed in the 1890s, and is also known as the Church Missions House, a historic building and registered landmark in an area once known as \"Charity Row.\" Fotografiska is partnering with CetraRuddy for the renovation of the building, Starr Restaurants to create and operate all dining areas, and Roman & Williams to design the dining/event spaces. Since the company's Stockholm opening in 2010, Fotografiska has established itself as a haven of innovation and free expression while becoming a global name synonymous with contemporary photography. Their exhibition history and presentation of photography is powerful and unparalleled, and includes more than 170 exhibitions to date, such as David LaChapelle, Annie Leibovitz, Albert Watson, Sally Mann, Cooper & Gorfer, Ren Hang, and Christian Tagliavini. DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONFotografiska is looking for a General Manager to help open and oversee the new venue in New York City. The goal is to provide an outstanding overall guest experience at Fotografiska and establish a safe environment for all guests and employees. The General Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the venue and will create a positive and productive work environment. The General Manager will be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of all the processes and procedures of the operation. S/he will coordinate and work closely with the restaurant's leadership team to create a seamless guest experience daily. The General Manager will also work with the restaurant's leadership team to develop and monitor systems and processes to deliver a diverse range of successful events in the venue. This individual will plan and execute organizational initiatives and work together with key stakeholders to achieve the set targets and goals. The General Manager will provide KPI reporting and general feedback to the Executive Director and other Fotografiska department heads. The General Manager will oversee every aspect of the guest experience inside the venue. Departments reporting into the General Manager will include Custodial, Front of House, Ticketing (box office), and Security departments. The General Manager will also work closely with Fotografiska's Exhibits, Retail, Marketing/Sales, and Programming/Experiences teams to support the overall business strategy and objectives. Other responsibilities will include the following: Hire, train, lead, guide, evaluate, and develop a world-class team of employees with operational responsibilities to ensure that the organization achieves it business objectives. Ensure regular contact with Fotografiska International for alignment on brand coherence, budget goals, best practices, and KPI management. Drive Membership and Community Marketing to develop and present unique selling solutions based on analysis and market opportunities. Liaise effectively with Starr Restaurant's Food & Beverage team, seamlessly carrying out a high level of service. Develop written processes and procedures for new operations. Promote and capitalize on the uniqueness of the venue and strive to continuously support, foster, and strengthen the positioning of the property by implementing a service culture of excellence and a management style defined and characterized by the highest attention to detail. Stay current with the target customer and up to date with the latest lifestyle trends in fashion, music, art, food, etc. Maintain a high profile with the media, industry associations, and other relevant intermediaries and stakeholders. Deliver full P/L and cash flow according to the annual plan and budget. Develop and maintain high employee morale through continual liaison with staff - communicate clearly and persuasively while being open to feedback and learning. Establish and maintain health and safety requirements, including ADA compliancy. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP The General Manager will report to Pam Harris, Executive Director, Fotografiska New York. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONSThe desired candidate should have at least eight to 10 years' experience managing a first-class, high-volume, multi-faceted operation. While opening experience is preferred, this individual must have exposure to managing event production, food & beverage, security, box office, and maintenance. This person possesses a college degree and has a demonstrated ability to manage a large, diverse team. Ideally, s/he will be comfortable implementing and scaling processes to allow for growth. Strong knowledge on how to build local community presence as well as a natural understanding and appreciation of the concept of luxury, quality, and culture is essential. The General Manager will be an inspirational leader and must have the ability to motivate and train employees, ensuring a culture of service excellence. The individual will be highly visible, proactive, and able to communicate effectively with key stakeholders. S/he will possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to make strategic decisions(sometimes under tight timelines), and rely on a proven track record of leading by example and delivering results. S/he should be a strategic thinker, highly numerate, and analytical - with the ability to track, measure, and evaluate the success of a business plan. As an integral member of the Fotografiska team, the candidate must exemplify the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and discretion. The individual must be entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, creative, and results-driven. Self-motivation and self-reliance are essential, and the individual must be accustomed to working in an independent manner, able to produce the necessary results without close supervision. This individual will also have the ability to deal effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom requiring high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy. The ideal candidate must have exemplary people management skills. Superb verbal and written communication abilities, strong interpersonal skills, high energy, creativity, and a collaborative spirit is a must! S/he will have strong operational experience in venue, hospitality, and/or gallery management and ideally have a strong interest in the arts.
