Primary Responsibilities

HDR is looking for a Traffic Noise Analyst to join our Transportation Business Group in North Carolina or South Carolina. This position may be based out of one of the following HDR offices: Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Wilmington, Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, or Rock Hill. In the role of Traffic Noise Analyst, we'll count on you to:

Lead highway traffic noise assessments for DOTs primarily in the NC/SC

area, and also throughout the United States

Perform noise monitoring for a variety of environmental acoustics


Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables

Work independently on projects or assist more-senior scientists on larger


Give direction to clerical, technical and lower-level professional personnel as


Focus on tasks including environmental noise, vibration-related analyses

Perform other related duties as necessary



Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Math, Physics or closely related field

Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of environmental acoustics

Leadership skills and strong ability to work in a team environment

Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs

Must have strong oral and written communication skills

Proficiency with GIS and FHWAs Traffic Noise Model (TNM), are required

Proficiency with state-of-the-art with tools used to measure acoustical values and software used to process and analyze that measurement data

Must be familiar with relevant ISO, ANSI, ASTM and related acoustical standards

Must be familiar with current FHWA and DOT guidance documents for performing acoustical analyses

Requires occasional travel and use of measurement equipment in the field

An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture

Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently

Must excel at being a member of a team

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of NCDOT and SCDOT noise policy and how to execute required analysis

Local candidates are preferred
