As the Senior Safety Specialist, you will:
? Be responsible for supervising and overseeing the development, implementation and strict compliance of the local, federal and international Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, company policies, regulations, and/or standards applicable to the site for the overall compliance of Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision and wellbeing & safety of its employees.
? Propose and provide leadership to achieve EHS goals and objectives. Assure SOP's are written that describe work processes which comply with EHS requirements and that training is provided to employees.
? Seek, evaluate and inform management personnel of any applicable safety laws, regulations and J&J Corporate EHS&S requirements and its impact on the business. Prepare and submit to any applicable regulatory agency the required documents for compliance. Represents Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision during all EHS/OHS regulatory agency audits.
? Lead a comprehensive fire and explosion hazard identification/risk assessment - open flame processes and classified areas including inspection, testing and maintenance programs for critical fire safety equipment including container integrity, air-monitoring instruments, bonding and grounding devices, alarms and sprinkler systems, and portable fire extinguishers.
? Be responsible for the site Contractor Safety Program. Evaluate contractor documentation and certify contractor authorized to perform activities in J&J Surgical Vision. Prepare and provide EHS&S trainings to employees, contractors & visits.
? Establish, implement, and maintain a process for conducting a risk assessment for machine guarding to ensure that the performance of safety controls for newly acquired machinery is proportional to the risks as determined by use of the risk graph provided in ISO's Safety of Machinery standard, #13849-1.
? Be responsible for the J&J Machine Safety program. Train area personnel in use of J&J WRAPS tool. Coordinate and implements solutions as per WRAP assessments.
? Establish, implement, and maintain a written Hazardous Energy Control Program to protect personnel from unexpected startup, dangerous movement of machinery or equipment during service, maintenance, cleaning or repair.
? Lead a Fall Prevention Site Assessment to identify the potential slip, trip and fall hazards of the facility, and to evaluate the risks associated with the identified hazards
? Establish, implement, and maintain appropriate electrical safe work practices in accordance with local requirements to utilize insulated tools and require electrical personal protective equipment based on the electrical hazards and risks at the facility.
? Establish, implement, and maintain a written Confined Space Entry Program (CSEP) and a facility-wide survey to identify and inventory all confined spaces including establishing, implementing, and maintaining a formal rescue plan for each PRCS entry. Establish, implement, and maintain a formal rescue plan to deal with non-routine working at heights situations.
? Lead Annual tabletop simulations to evaluate effectiveness of established communication procedures with external resources. Lead training provided to all members of on-site emergency response teams, including medical first responders.
? Bachelor degree in Science or Engineering is required. A Master's Degree is preferred.
? OSHA 30 hrs. training or certification is a plus.
? Must have a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in Safety / EHS within the manufacturing regulated industry.
? Experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical and/or Consumer industry is highly preferred.
? Previous administrative (supervision) experience is preferred.
? Experience in the preparation and oversight of audits (internal and external) is preferred.
? Experience in validations, root cause analysis and CAPA is a plus.
? Computer literacy required (MS Office programs).
? Proven oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish are required.
? Ability to establish positive interpersonal relations and interact with people effectively at different levels of the organization.
? Ability to communicate complex issues and concepts in a clear and consistent manner.
? Flexibility to work long and to respond to emergency calls that require returning to the company after regular working hours.
? The position requires up to 10% of domestic and international travel.
