This position is assigned to Central Regional Maintenance in the Grounds Maintenance Shop responsible for the Dix and Governor Morehead School Campuses in Raleigh. This position is responsible for:
Mowing large areas of turf with commercial riding and walk-behind mowers;
Tree and shrub pruning
Cleaning up tree debris, leaves, and trash
Maintenance of flowering plants and natural areas
Operating hand tools and powered equipment used in landscaping, grounds maintenance, and snow removal on the Dorothea Dix and Governor Morehead School Campuses

About the DHHS Office of Property and Construction The Division of Property and Construction provides maintenance, housekeeping, and grounds services for the Dorothea Dix Campus which consists of 35 buildings totally 944,700 square feet of building space on 326 acres and provides basic maintenance and grounds services for the Governor Morehead School which has 31 buildings totaling 291,000 square feet of building space. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
General knowledge of ground maintenance work; including application of fertilizers; insecticides and herbicides;
Skilled in the operation of large grounds maintenance equipment;
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written work assignments;
Must have a valid Driver's License;
The physical requirements of the job include the following: Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
The is an essential position that is required to report to work on campus during periods of adverse weather to assist with preparing for and recovering from adverse weather.
Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00AM to 3:00PM.
Management prefers candidates with the following experience:
Two years of progressive experience in a full range of landscape activities in a commercial setting involving work on large campuses
Preference will be given to applicants with NC Pesticides License (Ornamental & Turf, Public Operator, Right-of-Way, etc)
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Education and/or experience in grounds work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade and an equivalent to two years of experience in planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants and grasses.
