The Center for Public Scholarship (CPS) seeks to promote free inquiry and public discussion, bringing the best scholarship in and outside of the academy to bear on the critical and contested issues of our time. All CPS activities and initiatives are intended to foster dialogue within and beyond the academy and to promote civic engagement and enhance public understanding of important social, intellectual, and political issues. CPS aims to be the public face of The New School for Social Research, reaching the public in the New York community and well beyond.


The Center for Public Scholarship seeks a New School student (preferably a graduate student) for approximately 10 hours per week to coordinate and execute marketing for CPS events. The schedule is flexible, and the duties vary based on the type of event. In addition to staffing events, the event assistant will be expected to maintain regular office hours to complete standard office tasks and to help with event outreach and promotion, especially on social media. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:?Assist Manager with event marketing, promotion, and coordination ?Administrative and logistical support, including document creation and maintenance ?Research and special projects as directed ?Identify universities/academic departments, nonprofits, government offices, and research centers that have faculty, members, staff, and students whose interests are aligned with upcoming CPS events; contact organizations to announce events to their networks?Assist with phone, email, and physical mail campaigns to market and promote upcoming events?On-site staffing at events, including ushering and other coordination during evening and morning hours, as needed and assigned?Find creative new ways to promote events ?Event duties include setup and breakdown of event space(s), assisting with guest check-in and event registrations, serving as an usher, passing microphones during Q&A sessions, overseeing event proceedings, and general guest services.?Distribute posters and flyers on campus and to other venues in and around NYC

Minimum Qualifications:

?MUST HAVE FEDERAL WORK STUDY AWARD TO APPLY?Can commit to working at least 2-3 days per week?Familiar with Microsoft Office, Google Suite?Comfortable navigating various social media channels professionally

Preferred Qualifications:

?1-2 years previous office administrative and public events experience?Design Experience (Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Photoshop)
