Job purpose

Supervise, lead, and train other technicians while performing assigned jobs. Assist customer with issues within the natural gas compression industry. Lead jobs that consist of natural gas engine and compressor repairs, overhauls, trouble shooting and inspections. Promote good attitude to lead technicians to accomplish the job assigned. Job planning with Regional Field Service Manager for correct parts, tools, technicians and equipment. Daily communication to customer of progress or circumstances that may delay the job in meeting the deadline. Promote safe work practices and insure that JSEA and all HSE requirements for job are followed. Fill out detailed service report, review with customer and have them sign daily. 

Duties and responsibilities

The Field Technician – Master Journeyman is responsible and accountable for, but not limited to, the following: 

  • Perform tasks with minimal supervision and according to WPI and OEM standards
  • Responsible for development of other technicians. Instructing them on the proper procedures to trouble shoot, repair and overhaul natural gas engines and compressors
  • Able to read schematics, blueprints, sketches, drawing and specifications
  • Determines the best possible procedure to perform job safely and effectively
  • Perform Waukesha Service Bulletin upgrades as sent by factory
  • Inspects own work at each step checking tolerances and correct fit that meets OEM spec’s
  • Demonstrates excellent productivity for job task being performed
  • Complete all required paperwork including detailed service reports, JSEA, PM sheets, Failure assessment form, startup form, deferred startup form, compressor inspection form, overhaul build log, etc.
  • Work safely and maintain the work with high standards of housekeeping
  • Performs required Preventative Maintenance on company and personal own tooling and equipment
  • LO/TO of every job assigned and reviewed with crew
  • Must own basic and advance tooling for position
  • Must know how to perform cold and hot alignments, soft foot on engine and compressor
  • Must be able to repair and overhaul many types of reciprocating compressors
  • Aid customers as requested for possible additional work
  • Other duties as may be assigned by management
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ working on Industrial Engines (gas/diesel, etc.)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Has attended and passed the OEM Engine Specification training. Should be Gold Wrench certified or on their way to becoming one
  • Must have a valid driver license and have a driving record that complies with WPI insurance requirements
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of OEM equipment and proficient in troubleshooting
  • Knowledge and experience of tooling, including laser alignment, Hytorc, bore scope, emissions analyzer, oscilloscope, etc.
  • Knowledge of nature gas compression plant operations and booster stations
  • Advanced mechanical principles and mathematics
  • Blueprint & Schematic reading
  • Must be proficient in electrical diagnostics
  • Must be proficient in computer skills (basic operation, Windows, and Micro Soft Office)
  • Knowledge of electronic controls such as PLC’s, Murphy panels, Altronic, and ESM
  • Must have supervisory and leadership skills
  • Must be proficient using precision measuring tools
  • Truck crane operation experience
