About Us In 1867 the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc., (our parent body) was organized. As the field grew wider and the laborers increased, there was a great need for a Woman’s Convention in North Carolina which reaches back into the minds and hearts of men. ( In 1884, several North Carolina Missionary Baptist women felt the call to mission. Under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Henry Martin Tupper, himself an American Baptist missionary founder and the first president of Shaw University, they formed the Woman’s Convention. The women felt they could render a more effective service by bringing together the widely scattered missionary societies under one banner.”
